Reed Ramlow, Project Director of AED's Private Sector Program, was a keynote speaker at the World Social Marketing Conference in Brighton, England, in September. His presentation was entitled "NetMark and the Full Market Impact™ Model: Public-Private Partnership in Malaria Prevention." Mr. Ramlow also delivered two additional presentations, "Expanding Water Purification Practices among India's Poor: POUZN Project Experiences and Lessons" and "Social Marketing Evolves to Achieve Total Market Development and Sustainable Health Impact."
Two members of AED/N-MARC's field staff in Nepal also visited the conference. Rajeeb Satyal, Public-Private Partnerships Advisor, presented "Increasing Condom Accessibility and Choice in Nepal through Partnership with the Commercial Sector." N-MARC's Research Manager, Dr. Prakash Pant, delivered a poster presentation entitled, "Using GIS to Map Availability of Condoms in HIV 'Hot Zones' in Nepal."
The conference attracted over 700 delegates from across the globe and was the first of its kind to broach the application of social marketing techniques on such a large scale. Registrants included representatives from social marketing organizations, non-governmental organizations, donor agencies, private foundations, academic institutions, and the commercial health sector.
